Dental Crowns

If the dentist examining your teeth determines you need a crown, we will begin by treating the source of the problem. For example, an infection that has reached the tooth's inner chamber will first require a root canal treatment. Regardless of the treatment method, the dentist will anesthetize the area and reshape the tooth to create room for the temporary crown or permanent crown. 

Next, the dentist will scan your teeth with an intraoral camera to capture digital impressions. The CEREC software uses these impressions to design a crown, and the design is uploaded directly to our in-office milling device.

If you choose a material other than porcelain, we'll send the impressions to our partner lab and place a temporary crown over the tooth in the meantime. 

The CEREC milling machine precisely carves the porcelain restoration to your custom dimensions out of a solid block of tooth-colored ceramic. Production typically takes about an hour or less, during which you can wait comfortably in the office.

Lab-made permanent crowns are handled by specialized technicians and will be ready in about two to three weeks. 

Once your crown is ready, we can remove your temporary crown if one was placed. We will check the fit and color of your permanent crown and make any necessary adjustments. If no modifications are needed, we will attach the crown with strong dental cement. The crowned tooth is placed under a special light that cures and hardens the cement.  Finally, we clean and polish your teeth, and treatment is complete.
